Sailport Plc is keen to encourage and promote environmental awareness amongst customers of it’s marina. Please consider the needs of the environment for the good of all.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF WILDLIFE
The shoreline habitats of the Tamar Estuary support a huge variety of species that can be vulnerable to disturbance. Reduce your speed and check your wash in sensitive areas. Please consider your neighbours! – roaring engines, flapping halyards, and loud music can disturb other users of the marina and nearby residents. Do what you can to reduce noise pollution to a minimum.
OVERBOARD IS OUT!
Litter spoils the appearance of the marina and harms the environment. Bag your rubbish and dispose of it in the marina bins. It is an offence (Fine £1000) under the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Pollution by Garbage) Regulations 1998 to dump rubbish in a river or at sea. Please don’t flush in the marina! – untreated sewage from vessels is unsightly and a health hazard to other water users. Please don’t pollute the marina environment; use the shore facilities whenever possible.
PLEASE DON'T POLLUTE THE WATER
Dispose of used engine oil within the marina’s waste oil tank and when refuelling try to reduce drips or spills to an absolute minimum. Take care with anti-fouling. Ensure that anti-fouling scrapings are swept up and disposed of. Try not to allow them to enter the water.
RECYCLE IF YOU CAN
We maintain comprehensive recycling facilities for waste oil, oil contaminated waste, antifouling by-products, batteries, metal, glass, fluorescent light bulbs, cardboard, plastic, food tins, foil aerosols, newspapers & magazines. To ensure that we can recycle as much as possible please place recyclables in the correct bins. If in doubt please ask!
SAVE WATER!
Please use hose guns on the end of pontoon and boatyard hoses. Guns are available to borrow or purchase from the marina office
HAZARDOUS WASTE
The Hazardous Waste Regulations came into force in 2005. Under the new Regulations it is illegal to mix hazardous materials or mix them with non hazardous waste. There is a fixed penalty of £300 per offence for minor offences. The word ‘hazardous’ means corrosive, poisonous, flammable, irritant, or toxic. The marina has a special yellow bin in the boatyard for the disposal of hazardous waste.
NON EU FOOD WASTE
The Disposal of Catering Waste
from International Means of
Transport - EEC Regulation No
1774/2002 - The Products of
Animal Origin (Third Country
Imports) (England) No4
Regulations 2004.
The Dept of Environment, Food and
Rural Affairs require that food
waste from vessels that have
traveled to Non EU Countries (with
some exceptions) must not be
disposed of as general garbage.
Such waste must be disposed of
separately. Mayflower Marina has
separate waste reception facilities
for non EU food waste and both
berth holders and visitors requiring
use of such facility are asked to
enquire at the marina office.
